Call for Papers for the Mini Track

"Decision Support Systems in the Environment"

This mini track focuses on innovative design and use of Decision Support Systems (DSS) and technologies in the environment. This includes, but is not limited to agriculture, aquaculture, natural resources, environmental, and ecosystem management. Decision support technologies spans various DSS including, but not limited to, knowledge-driven, data-driven, model-driven, and geographically-driven systems. The purpose is to bridge academic research effort pertaining to various DSS technologies with practice. The track brings together all researchers interested in exploring new and innovative applications of DSS technologies and ideas for improving/adapting such technologies in new problem domains.

DSS in the environment poses unique challenges and this track emphasizes technical, organizational, and implementation issues in such problem domain. In particular, we are interested in papers that are theoretically founded, but simultaneously illustrate the application of DSS technologies in the environment. Both, research articles and academic and practitioners reports are welcomed. Moreover, the track is receptive to all types of research methodologies with particular interest in design science research.

Possible Topics include the following:

·        How decision support systems are used for environmental and ecosystem management

·        Environmental management information systems (EMIS) and their role in organizational environmental management systems

·        Ecosystem decision support including watersheds, forest, rivers, lakes,…etc.

·        Ecological model and data management in a distributed environment

·        Spatial DSS and multiple criteria DSS for environmental management

·        Technical, organizational, and implementation issues pertinent to environmental DSS including (but not limited to)

§        DSS design methodologies and approaches

§        DSS design issues for improved performance

§        DSS user interface design implications

§        Role and effects of user involvement in DSS design and development

§        Decision support model formulation

§        DSS outcomes and performance evaluation

·        Case studies of DSS in the environment

·        Emerging technologies for DSS development and delivery with applications in the environment, examples include:

§        Soft-computing methods such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, and genetic/evolutionary algorithms

§        Web services and service oriented architecture (SOA)
