A Walk Down Front Street

Click on the images to view them full-sized.

Front Street is the main commercial street in Nome. It parallels the Bering Sea. This is the view of the city from the eastern end of the city. Note the gold prospectors on the beach. (They can't prospect for gold right in front of the city because of a seawall there.)
Heading west. The building on the left is a private residence.
The building on the left is a government building. The one on the far right is new, some kind of convention center.
The Nome Nugget office is the small pink building in the center of the picture on the right side of the street. The small blue building to the left of it is The Glue Pot, a cafe catering to teens. The big yellow building is the Sitnasuak Building. It contains a native corporation, state troopers office, National Park Service office, and others.
The Nugget Inn. On the south side of Front Street near the western end of Front Street.
The western end of Front Street. The Nugget Inn is just out of the picture to the left. The street continuing on down to the harbor area is called River Street. The orange van is a taxi. The street going to the right is Bering Street, which becomes the Nome-Teller highway.
Continuing down River Street to the harbor area. This is the channel leading to the inner small-boat harbor. Large boats dock at the causeway outside the harbor. This channel is also the mouth of the Snake River.
