Since I graduated from Dakota State
University, I have been working at Mediacom, a cable, internet and phone
provider, for a little over a
year now. I am the Marketing
Coordinator for the South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa region and have my
office out of Brookings, SD. I do a lot of traveling to do
promotional events and sponsorships. It has been a great job and I am
very fortunate to have gotten to do such a wide variety of marketing
tasks. I have a lot of freedom to come up with new marketing ideas and
events that will help promote our company. I have also learned that
there is never a dull moment when it comes to marketing, especially when
you're in the cable industry. August, 2006 |
As it turned out, I am now a
full-time marketing guy. I work for Microboards Technology in the Twin
Cities as the
Marketing Assistant, doing graphic design,
planning trade
shows, etc.

I’ve been fortunate enough to find a position right here in Madison as
an account executive for a local media company.
Getting a marketing
degree from DSU provided me with a career path that allowed me to do
what I want without having to move my family.

I was asked to join the Wal-Mart team as a manager
trainee. Each management member is required to complete the Management
Training Program, which currently runs about 12 weeks. Revisions for
training practices and ways-of-learning are under way, however. We
learn about the roles and functions of Personnel, Claims, Invoice
Office, Department Managers, Assistant Managers, Co-Managers, Store
Managers, Asset Protection, (and many more!) and the duties of the
entire store. Sam Walton’s book “Made in America” is a wonderful
resource to understand the Wal-Mart culture and what makes Wal-Mart so
successful. After the training program, we are sent to a Wal-Mart store
as an assistant manager. We are all encouraged to pursue any Wal-Mart
career path we may have an interest in (whether it be higher levels of
management, technology-focused careers, a career with Home Office (or
corporate headquarters), etc… the opportunities really are endless)! |
