Freewriting

I don't remember a lot about my first day of school, so maybe this isn't the greatest topic for me. I liked my kindergarten teacher, and I always did enjoy school. But we had just moved to Fort Pierre when I started kindergarten, probably in about 1962 or so. It was a big town compared to what it was later. Now it's getting bigger again because it's basically taking a lot of Pierre's overflow. But the dam wasn't complete then and there were a lot of people there to work on it. Later they would leave. I suppose some of my classmates left because of that. But since my dad's job was in livestock, we were there to stay. I spent all of my school days there, graduating in 1975. But what about kindergarten? It must have been overflow then, because we had class on the stage in the gym in the elementary building, a room that doubled as the cafeteria. My teacher was a sweet and attractive woman, probably only in her early twenties. There were probably twenty-five or thirty of us in the class, and in the photo of our class few of us are smiling, though it was after mid-year, and many of us had our favorite Christmas toys with us.
