RESEARCH IN PROGRESS

Development of professional ethics web site to distribute video-based teaching modules to higher ed instructors. I have acquired the web domain: www.ethicsvids.org. Using four basic models of ethics (utilitarian, rights, compassion, theory of justice), I am producing video vignettes that will be provided, free of charge, to instructors and students. Each participating instructor will be asked to involve students in surveys about ethics issues, also managed via the web site. Data collected from these surveys will be used to study students’ (pre-instruction and post-instruction) views of ethical issues and to assess the effectiveness of internet-delivered video as an approach to teaching ethics.

Factors influencing the decision of high definition television (HDTV) format by countries. This study focuses on HDTV format selection by countries in Latin America and builds a model that weights different influences – some technical and some socio-political – on the final format decision.

Student Computer Usage Research Project (SCURP). Multi-disciplinary, multi-university effort to study the relationships among student ability, effort, attitudes, computer-based instruction, and learning outcomes. We are now attempting to build and test a longitudinal model. Efforts continue to enlist the involvement of other universities in the region which have comprehensive wireless computing environments.

Implementation of retail-level radio frequency identification (RFID). Our working paper suggests that marketing practitioners and academics are ignoring key factors related to retail-level RFID implementation and that ignoring of customer acceptance of the technology could create very negative results for retailers.
